About Dr. Najmun Riyaz.
Dr. Najmun Riyaz, MD is a practicing psychiatrist in New Jersey, and an Empowerment Coach. She loves to write blogs and also runs a podcast in Kashmiri, to raise mental health awareness in a conflict ridden area of Kashmir, India, where she was born and raised.
Dr Riyaz received her MBBS from the Government Medical College of Kashmir, India and completed her residency at Saint Elizabeth’s medical center, affiliated with the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, and University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life sciences in Toledo, Ohio. She has worked in Hospital settings both as an inpatient and an outpatient Psychiatrist. She also served as a Medical Director in a geriatric facility in New Jersey.
During the pandemic she started an awareness campaign for the emotional and mental wellbeing of People via social media, a podcast in her mother tongue of Kashmiri for the people of Kashmir, where mental health resources are minimal, and there is a huge stigma to the Mental illness. She also started volunteering for a US based IT company with offices around the world providing employees with seminars, webinars, group and one-to-one coaching sessions on Stress management, emotional intelligence, trauma and its effects on our well-being.
Above all, she is a mother to three beautiful children, and a wife to a cardiologist husband. She considers her children and her husband as her biggest inspiration who have helped her into becoming who she is today.
